Part 1: The Champaran Problem

Champaran is a place in Bihar. Farmers lived there. British landlords owned the land. The landlords forced farmers to grow indigo. Indigo is a plant. The farmers got very little money. They were very poor and sad.

Part 2: Gandhi Comes to Help

A farmer named Rajkumar Shukla met Gandhi. He told Gandhi about the problem. Gandhi agreed to help. He came to Champaran in 1917. The British government told him to leave. Gandhi refused. He said, "I will stay and help the farmers."

Part 3: The Success

Gandhi talked to the farmers. He collected their stories. He showed the truth to the government. Finally, the landlords agreed to give money back to the farmers. The farmers won. This was Gandhi's first big success in India. It gave him confidence to fight for India's freedom.

Main Message: One person with courage and truth can make a big change. Gandhi showed that peaceful protest works.
